Description
The deeply veined leaves of 'Empress Wu' Shadowland® are impressively large, measuring 1½' or more in width and length. This plant forms large leaves as a young plant, but it takes about 5 years of growth in the ground to reach its full mature size. Its strongly upright habit creates a tall and wide clump, with pale reddish violet flowers appearing above the foliage in early to midsummer. This plant is an exceptional addition to any shade garden, serving as a striking focal point and a topic of conversation.
Hostas are exceedingly popular perennials in today's gardens due to their versatility in the landscape. Their subtle colors, tall flower scapes, and broad, coarse leaves fill a niche in garden designs that few other plants can achieve. Their large leaves provide excellent coverage for dying bulb foliage. Hostas also grow well in city environments where the air may be polluted by car exhaust, etc.
